I started my research at University of Edinburgh with a BSc in Biotechnology followed by a PhD in Biotechnology at Cambridge, UK. Then, I worked at Wageningen University (Netherlands) and Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (Japan). I'm experienced in clean power generation with simultaneous waste treatment using microbial fuel cell (MFC) technology. I was involved in designing and building reactors for bioelectrochemical studies, comparative genomics and transcriptomics of electrogenic consortia, as well as genetic engineering of isolated strains using CRISPR-Cas. Since 2021, I focused on functional annotation of human gut microbiome. I have a strong interest in studying microorganisms’ communication using cellular redox balancing, as well as utilizing synthetic biology to create and modify microbial consortia. Currently, I'm a co-founder of AstroFarms startup, focused on microbial consortia design to allow food production on Moon and Mars.
